Have You Considered Fitess When Picking Your Horse?
At OzRacingForm.com.au, one of the questions we ask ourselves before tipping a horse is whether the horse fit enough to win this race ? Horses very, very rarely win if they are not at or very close to 100% fit. How do I know if he/she is fit enough? Go through his/her history and see when he/she peaks... Is it 3rd-up from a break, 2nd-up, 4th-up or does he/she "fly" 1st-up when feeling good and fresh ? Look at him/her in the mounting yard, are the ribs showing? Is the coat healthy? These are tell-tale signs. Look at what he/she did last start. Did he/she loom up to win but die on his/her run. This can be a sign the horse just needed the hit-out and will be mighty hard to stop next time out (in similar class of race) Has he/she had any set-backs? Keep an ear out as if the horse you like has missed work with injury or illness, he is probably not ready to win and will need this run to bring it back to it's top. How long since his/her last run? Watch for horses who are a month, or 6-weeks between runs. Again, these gallopers may just need their next run to top off their fitness. Look at the horse's history before dismissing though, remember some horse's relish a break between runs too... Your horse must be fit enough, or it will not, in all likelihood, win. _____________________________________________________________________ Through OzRacingForm.com.au, David Gately provides his loyal subscribers with quality, real time information on Melbourne and Sydney metropolitan races to help them make better judgement decisions with their betting dollars.
