Huge Pointspreads In Meaningless Preseason Games?
We enter week three of the dreaded 4-game preseason schedule in the NFL and hopefully the sports betting public is not getting caught up in the hoopla, surrounding several teams. In Denver it sounds like the writers have witnessed the second coming of John Elway in Jay Cutler, the rookie QB out of Vandy. I was scanning the odds for this weeks exhibition tilts and was quite surprised by the lines at my local sportsbook. The Cowboys return from the Bayou and play San Francisco just 5 days after being on the road, yet are 6 ½ point picks. Drew Bledsoe has made a career of teasing bettors with lights out performances, but I’m not sold on his offensive line. The Broncos welcome their former offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak back to the Mile High City when his Texans come a calling. Mike Shanahan is very fond of his former assistant and I look for this to be much closer then the -6 point spread. The Bengals have put their dysfunctional offseason behind them or so it seems and they welcome Brett Farve and the pack to Ohio. The crowd should be jacked up as their ace QB Carson Palmer returns from that devastating injury suffered in the playoffs. This line sits at -6 and don’t be too anxious here. The Redskins must be concerned with the health of Clinton Portis as they snatched T.J. Duckett from the Atlanta Falcons. This could be a great move as Washington has a stout offensive line and they can pound the ball up the middle and then play action to their talented wideouts. Look for tight end Chris Cooley to have a monster year for the Skins and I look for them to win the East! Bob Acton
