The Only Way to Make Money from Gambling is to Think and Act like a Professional Gambler

Gambling is a dangerous occupation and most people don’t do it very well! Strong words, but oh so true! Most people treat gambling as a hobby or an interest. A smaller group of people treat gambling much more seriously and try to make a living out of it. However, even this group has very little success.

The secret to success in gambling is to treat it as a profession and to act and think like a professional gambler. Let me explain. Professional gamblers make up a rare handful of the gambling population. There are very few of them around and they are usually very reserved and secretive about their gambling habits and behaviours. But how do I know this?

From 1999 to 2005, I wrote a PhD Doctoral Thesis on Gambling in the discipline of Sociology. Part of my research was on the habits and behaviours of professional gamblers. The research was fascinating and I discovered some very interesting characteristics that most professional gamblers share.

1) Professional gamblers treat gambling very seriously and systematically 2) They approach gambling through the principles and mindset of business-people and in fact, treat gambling as a business 3) They have a very limited range of gambling events/games that they bet on 4) They bet ONLY when they have an ideal event to bet on 5) They only use flat-stake betting plans (they NEVER use progressive staking plans) 6) Many professional gamblers know little about the technicalities of what they bet on, instead they apply risk minimisation strategies that work again and again

Sadly, the overwhelming majority of gamblers are reckless and have no system to keep them on track. Even many gamblers who aspire to be professional gamblers (making a living out of gambling) still do not stick to a consistent plan. There problem is a lack of discipline. This puts them at a major disadvantage, resulting in heavy losses and major social, family and personal problems. For those gamblers who really seek to apply discipline to their gambling, it is important to follow the principles that professional gamblers use.
